The Legal Aid Society, Contra Costa County Dependency Program (CCCDP) administers all assignments
in Contra Costa County for court-appointed counsel in juvenile dependency court.
CCCDP has its own staff of 5 full-time attorneys representing parents and children in dependency
cases filed in Superior Court in Contra Costa County. A panel of dependency attorneys represent
parents and children in conflict cases.
|
| Appointments by Court Referral Only |
CCCDP staff attorneys represent indigent parents or children in juvenile dependency court exclusively in Contra Costa County at all stages of the proceedings, including: detention, jurisdiction, disposition, plan reviews, post-permanency reviews and termination of parental rights.
Upon the filing of a petition pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code section 300, the court refers the child or children to counsel. This referral is made to CCCDP for assignment of counsel. The court will also refer parents, who appear at the court hearing and wish to be represented, for a financial eligibility assessment. CCCDP will then assign counsel for financially qualifying parents.
